an hour and 40 mins!!
why does blogger have to do this/
why can't anyone suggest a faster way of posting pictures online?
i am only allowed 5 pics at a time,
which i have to wait after uploading.
so i spent that time waiting to browse through xiaxue's blog,
which btw has an extremely long post with many many pics.
the alternating between uploading of pics and browsing through her blog was NOT what i had in mind. *groanS*
a long long long time ago, on 21st march,
i brought baby to bottle tree park to prawn!
he seriously had NO idea we were going there,
i hope he did get a surprise!
amazingly, the bus service there was extremely convenient and it landed us right at the entrance to bottle tree park.
the prawning area was only a 5 mins walk from the bus stop.
THANK GAWD IT DIDN'T RAIN!
in fact, the sun was blazinggg hot!
we did one hour of prawning, which costs around $15,
but one hour is barely enough.
anyways, i think they're having some kinda promotion whereby when you prawn on sun-wed,
its $30 for 3 hours!
we're so going back for that one!
It wasn't very crowded when we got there,
baby set up everything himself.
i didn't dare to touch the bait(tiny bits of chicken heart).
the first prawn got hooked about 10 mins after the bait went into the water,
but because we were both HIGHLY inexperienced prawnners,
the prawn got away!!
the second time, baby pulled the prawn out of the water,
but he tugged too hard and the prawn escaped the hook and plopped back into the water!
his first catch was quite a fine-sized prawn,
with the two long spindly, blue claws.
there!
he did everything himself!
from the unhooking of the prawn to putting the prawn into the basket and re-baiting his hook!
lols. not that i didn't wanna help, but i'm very much comfortable with just watching him prawn! =DD
his second prawn was a smaller one,
but then we realised that it wasn't just a smaller one.
it was a female prawn, and a pregnant one at that.
it had this whole brown cluster right below its belly!
OMG. i know. ultimate cruelty.
but baby's a prawn lover,(as in terms of prawn consumption)
so it didn't really bother him much.
in fact, i think he was pretty excited to see how prawn eggs taste like~
andd after an hour of prawning,
we caught a total of....
.
.
.
.
.
2 prawns!
lols. okays fine, 2 prawns ain't alot!
but the next time we go prawning,
it wouldn't just be two measly prawns!
after returning the rods,
we headed to the bbq area to bbq the prawns.
seriously, i'm so proud of myself to be able to witness all these.
when i look at the pics below,
my hair still stands!!
firstly, he skewers the live prawns!!!
i saw it jerk! omg.
imagine having some sharp sharp thing poking through you,
deeply disturbing thought.
andd there he is, nonchalantly skewering the prawn like its a normal thing. lols.
sometimes, i'm so amazed how people can eat prawns!
prawns are scary to eat!
next, he places them on the grill(still alive)
most probably to maintain its freshness, i guess.
this part was scary,
cos the male prawn was still twitching its legs when half side of it has been cooked!!
you could see the side facing us was still grey,
with its moving legs, and the other side was orange!
then suddenly, its legs stopped moving.
this time it was dead for sure.
the prawn should have been killed beforehand so that it wouldn't have to ever experience being cooked alive. yikes! that's painful!
waiting "patiently" for his prawns to be cooked.
all done!
we suspect these pair of prawns were lovers!
the guy was caught first, denn the poor mummy prawn came to visit him,
and ended up getting caught in the hook! :(
PRAWNING WAS FUN!
but only if i'm sitting there watching baby do all the prawning! lols.
NEXT STOP: marina barrage.i had ordered pizza hut and they kicked up a huge fuss saying how they were not able to deliver it to the mrt station. why not?
its still a landmark, but they insisted on an exact location.
luckily, they managed to get hold of the exact address,
andd our pizzas arrived there just about the same time as we did!
AND I FINALLY GOT TO SEE THE HOT STICKER!
it really works! xDD
i've been so wanting to order from pizza hut just to see the HOT word appear on the sticker!
our humble lunch of 8 spicy drumlets(WHICH WE ABSOLUTELY ADORE!)
and a 10 inch pizza, bbq sausage!
when we arrived, the clouds were threateningly dark,
andd the lightning alert was already blaring like crazyy!
we only managed to catch a 5 minutes glipse of the area,
before we were asked to seek for shelter cos of the heavy rainstorm approaching.
lucky for us, there was an indoor shelter area which still provided us with a nice view without getting wet!
the rain was sickeningly heavy, but what's there to complain about when we can still enjoy our pizzas and drumlets! heehees~
after about an hour, the clouds gave up and the rain finally cleared!!
we could finally enjoy the scenic view from marina barrage!
in fact, its even better after a heavy rainstorm cos the wind was amazingly cooling,
andd there was no hot sun to make you feel all sweaty and sticky!
the weather was perfect to be at marina barrage that day! =DD
the floors were still pretty wet but there were many other people who also went out into the open to enjoy the scenery.
MARINA BARRAGE <3
us trying to take a pic with the s'pore flyer behind!
nowhere on earth i'd rather be. =D
RANDOM PICS:
lols. dunno what kinda dead expression we giving.
hahahas! looking innocently innocent!
it was about 6+ when we finally left the place.
andd they were holding some kinda marriage fair at the barrage.
no wonder we saw so many pink and purple heart balloons all over the place.
baby initially thought that someone was holding a marriage ceremony.
we went down to check it out,
andd apparently couples were asked to write their wishes on a pair of balloons before releasing them.
we wrote ours and released it, andd i took another pair of balloons home! hahahs.
the purple balloons were cute and i loved em!
(they deflated the next day anyways)
andd den we had to rush off for dinner!
reached home and took a quick bath before heading out for dinner.
it had started raining again, and this time, the rain wasn't so nice.
we trained down to clark quay where we were already late for my 8pm reservation at sizzling rock.
baby pretty much guessed where we were going for dinner,
but did well to hide it from me!
anyways, sizzling rock was WAYYYY below our expectations.
the only reason why eating there was bearable was cos i was having dinner with him.
AND the worst part is, sizzling rock didn't use to be like that.
the first time i went to sizzling rock, it was on my dad's birthday just last year.
we had an outdoor table facing the singapore river, andd the weather was breezy,
and the ambience was perfect for dinner!
halfway through the meal, the chef(who wasn't local) personally came out and asked for our opinions on our meals, and if everything was going fine.
their customer service was pretty commendable, andd i couldn't wait to return there soon!
LOOK WHAT THEY EVEN MENTIONED ON THEIR WEBSITE!
Right on the edge of the Singapore River sits a rather unique A l Fresco dining experience - the Sizzling Rock.
Merely describing the place as Al Fresco seems to do it injustice, as the Sizzling Rock dishes out not just an outdoor dining experience for breezy Singapore nights, but it also can provide a cool escape for the hot and hungry during lunch. and MORE!
firstly, they did NOT offer us the table at the edge of the singapore river because that section was closed off to normal diners.
it was only reserved for TOUR GROUPS.(first big turn-off)
so the boss suggested we head upstairs, where they had an air-conditioned dining area.
sounds pretty okay to us, so we headed upstairs to check it out.
GUESS WHAT?
the area was like some kinda KTV pub where uncles would just sit there and chit chat.
there was even a variety show playing on the large screen,
and the noise level was enough to drown out even the boss's words.
so we headed back downstairs where we got a table just outside the counter.
when we thought the worst was over.
out popped the two main characters that made our night.
first was a waitress who was in her 30s, and was from China.
second was a mediacorp reject, and celeb-wannabe teenager who worked at sizzling rock just cos mediacorp rejected her.
(oh yeah, she appeared in teenage magazine too and appeared on tv!(Chingay festival))
the China woman started blabbering away in chinese to baby,
while i was served by the teenage girl.
we didn't even have time to ponder over what we wanted to eat,
and we were drowned in their suggestions for this and that.
baby couldn't understand what the China woman was telling him about salad dressing,
while i was stuck in a weird conversation with that teenage girl which was sparked off when she asked me what drinks i wanted to order.
finally, when we've placed our orders,
peace returned and we were left on our own.
the food didn't take too long,
andd during that time, i was explaining to baby how sizzling rock didn't use to be like that.
finally our food arrived.
the really hot volcanic rock that they use to sizzle the meat.
baby's rib-eye steak!
this picture was most kindly taken by the teenage girl,
who didn't fail to continue blabbering even when she so nicely offered to help us take a picture.
when we were done with our meals,
we were pretty disappointed with the service standard there,
and agreed that it was the first-and-last.
then, the teenage girl proceeded to hand us towels to clean our hands.
she held out a towel to baby, who by chance didn't happen to be looking her way.
so i prompted him to take the towel
andd she suddenly exclaimed, "he's crazy! *laughs*"
OH MANN! seriously, i didn't know how else to react but to laugh.
i didn't know what baby did that made her say something like that,
but it was baby's utterly confused expression that made me laugh even harder.
baby didn't hear what she said, but after i told him, he gave the -.- face. hahahs!
i agree with him that the teenage waitress was WAYYY crazier than him, definitely.
she was not only super hyper, but never failed to make irrelevant links to anything and everything!
it was a lucky thing we didn't stay too long, but she really brought the service standard down to an all-time low!
the only thing that salvaged the unexpectedly disappointing dining experience was our bill.
we weren't aware of the one-for-one deal at sizzling rock,
so we thought our bill totalled up to close to $100,
but since they had an ongoing promotion, our dinner costs us only $60,
which wasn't too bad.
the weird dining experience also made it rather memorable for us!
hahahahs.
but once is really enough to deter me from ever going to sizzling rock again.
went for desserts after, at some famous tau huay stall which baby brought me to.
it was somewhere close to the cathay.
headed home soon after that~
SUNDAY: baby's birthday party.
i had planned a surprise birthday dinner for baby,
andd i hope he got a nice surprise!
not all of his closest frens turned up,
but it went on pretty okays.
the cake wasn't supposed to be pink at all.
i swear i can never talk to china people.
the person at the bakery was from china,
and the upteen times that i reminded her that i do not want a single bit of pink on the cake fell on deaf ears.
she nodded and insisted she knew,
but see what happened in the end.
and the blue wasn't THAT nice as she described.
happy 21st birthday, baby! =DD
his frens~
the food that was catered was NOT good.
so the next time anyone does any catering,
do not go to liang food catering.
despite the reviews stating that it wasn't too bad,
andd they had some dishes that were a must-try,
it was really below standard!
andd there was so much leftovers,
that we all had to help take some home!
i had a total of 10 boxes chocked full of noodles, rice, spring rolls and paos.
you can pretty much guess what i had for the next 2 days.
luckily, all the food cleared pretty quickly!
24th march, baby's REAL BIRTHDAY.
the day he finally turns 21 although he doesn't look a day over 19! =DD
hahahas.
i had school that day, so i was only able to meet him in the afternoon.
headed to CHEEKY CHOCOLATES along upper thompson road,
where we've been dying to try the chocolates there!~
it was a pretty cute place,
with loads of cute chocolate wallpapers.
the menu was a chocoholic's dream!
we picked the warm chocolate cake, which was the perfect choice and a really MUST-TRY item there!
we also selected 2 of their in-house chocolates from the menu,
which bore really cute names!
the chocolates there were pretty pricey(around $2.50 per piece)
but so worth every mouth!
the melted chocolate filling just oozed right out when we sliced into the cake,
and the vanilla ice cream really complemented the chocolate cake perfectly!
*i'm drooling at the sight of this*
dark chocolate with rum,
and the one on the right was 'dark and sexy"
which was basically just dark chocolate with chocolate flakes coating it.
baby was trying to act like the sad little rum ball! hahas!
that night,
we went for dinner with baby's parents and aunts and little cousin.
we had some steamboat fish thing, which according to baby is called fish-head-steamboat.
luckily, i didn't see any fish head bobbing around,
but the food was absolute yums! xDD
dinner was really satisfyinggg~ lols.
after dinner, headed back to cg where i got ready to cut baby's birthday cake with him.
his birthday cake was like no other cake,
and i'm pretty sure he'll prefer this to all other cakes!
this is baby's favourite cheesecake and its no wonder why.
this cheesecake is yummier than all other cheesecakes as the amount of cheese and cake balances out really well!
the only thing that would make it perfect is the biscuity crust below that most other cheesecakes would have! i love that part alot!
PRETTY CAKE WITH HANDSOME BIRTHDAY BOY~
his amazing phone managed to capture really pretty pictures that night.
i loved the twinkly background lights at the back!! =DD
with his own very personalised wrapping paper! lols!
cute smile, baby!
andd that concludes baby's 21st birthday!!!
21 years old already! omg. he's old! xDD
JUST LAST SATURDAY,
JUST LAST SATURDAY,
after i had to go back to school for napfa,
which was a total waste of my saturday morning.
(go back just to fail 3 items)
i had to attend kids read in the afternoon.
luckily baby accompanied me to the kidsread thing in the afternoon,
denn he cann noe how terrible it is to read to kids,
and try to settle them down for the activities.
he said it wasn't too bad,
but it would have been alot worse if he weren't there.
headed down to ikea for lunch after that.
FINALLY, baby could try his water shrimps.
but they weren't as fantastic as he thought they would be.
they smelt SO PRAWNY!
hahahs. had smoked salmon, poached salmon and meatballs!! =DDD
i adore ikea's food!! yummy yummy yumms!
the left one is the original one!
he stuffed the snout in, such that it looks like some lizard!
channel 16, every sunday, 2.30pm
after that, we headed to downtown east to catch SHOPAHOLIC!!!!
*SCREAMS*
I LOVE LOVE LOVE THE SHOW SO SO MUCH!!!!
i don't mind watching it over and over again!
(which i am going to)
i laughed so hard during the funny bits~
it was really different from the book,
yet still extremely nice to watch!
the movie wasn't a disappointment at all~
all thumbs-up to shopaholic movie!
i wanna catch one of these tinglys home!
LAST PICTURE OF THE DAY!
[[ ever ever after~ ]]
