Dad brought us to JB! :D

Yesterday was a long time since I've been out till so late in the morning, BUT it was worth it! Met kate & krissy with her friends at butter around 11pm, never seen the queue so long, worst part was it didn't move. stuck outside for over an hour before we decided to head down to rebel.
Queue was equally long, but we got lucky! :D got in and saved plenty of time! Worst night to go out yesterday because of the crowd, according to sis it was the last ladies night of 2011, so that's why the whole world was out! omgggg.

Amazingly, managed to wake up at 9 this morning and even drove us to the Johor premium outlets. nothing much there, lots of brands but kinda overrated. Spent a couple of hours there, didn't get a single thing. Still! it was exciting because it was so new!

They had a serious housefly problem, and i was so excited queuing up to get a crepe when I realized the place was crawling with houseflies. Their explanation "We apologize for the large amount of houseflies due to farming issues nearby, we are trying our best to maintain the hygiene of the area." Nope, couldn't do it, gave up getting the crepe in the end. Settled for baskin robbins but gave up the cone as well because like at least 10 houseflies landed on the cone that was left in the open! :(

Lunch at the food court was bad, no matter how new the place looked. Food was overpriced as well, food courts in Singapore are cheaper than the one there, and had better food. AVOID AVOID AVOID for lunch! Saw a Thai place on the second level which had a queue, prolly that place was better.

Left for the next shopping mall an hour's drive away, got groceries and walked around a bit before heading for our final stop- city square.
Bought a new bag there, and had dinner at a Hk restaurant, food was alright, but much cheaper than the outlet in Singapore, amazing how the price differs by so much.
Paid Cathay cinemas a visit while we were there as well, and then it was home sweet home!

busy fishy day.

Dad has the whole week off work so we decided on a fishing trip today.
Woke up bright and early this morning to head down to Keppel Bay for breakfast, before we try out our new secret fishing spot. Been seeing people fish there for ages, but that place is teeming with security cameras and 'No Fishing' signs, plus the fishes that were caught seemed like those coral fishes that were brightly colored or striped.

Prive was really empty this morning, apart from the Eggs Benedict and Eggs Royale, everything else was not yummy. :( Beginning to lose interest in that place. The sun came up right after breakfast, and that's when we grabbed our rods and eagerly started to fish. Dad caught the first fish which cia wanted to keep as a pet because of its pretty stripes, but it died an hour later. :( The guards came to shoo us off later on, and then we realized only those who lived there or owned a boat could actually fish there. Hardly any fishes anyways, mostly the same ones.

Had a whole list of chores for the whole day, but that didn't stop us from stopping by Ikea to grab lunch! It was the perfect lunch place, minus the crowd, and we even got a nice seat by the windows! Got caught in a bad jam later in the afternoon on the way back to school, motorbike got crushed under the wheels of a huge vehicle. ouch! Rounded up the day with duck rice from Katong and a new pair of specs! I'm beginning to miss singapore already, but its either deal with the missing, or deal with another new sem at school, i'll take the missing anyday! :)

an interesting read

In late-2008, I was lucky enough to discover a book called, The Introvert Advantage (How To Thrive in an Extrovert World), by Marti Laney, Psy.D. It felt like someone had written an encyclopedia entry on a rare race of people to which I belong. Not only had it explained many of my eccentricities, it helped me to redefine my entire life in a new and productive context.

Sure, anyone who knows me would say, “Duh! Why did it take you so long to realize you’re an Introvert?” It’s not that simple. The problem is that labeling someone as an Introvert is a very shallow assessment, full of common misconceptions. It’s more complex than that.

A section of Laney’s book maps out the human brain and explains how neuro-transmitters follow different dominant paths in the nervous systems of Introverts and Extroverts. If the science behind the book is correct, it turns out that Introverts are people who are over-sensitive to Dopamine, so too much external stimulation overdoses and exhausts them. Conversely, Extroverts can’t get enough Dopamine, and they require Adrenaline for their brains to create it. Extroverts also have a shorter pathway and less blood-flow to the brain. The messages of an Extrovert’s nervous system mostly bypass the Broca’s area in the frontal lobe, which is where a large portion of contemplation takes place.

Unfortunately, according to the book, only about 25% of people are Introverts. There are even fewer that are as extreme as I am. This leads to a lot of misunderstandings, since society doesn’t have very much experience with my people. (I love being able to say that.)

So here are a few common misconceptions about Introverts (not taken directly from the book, but based on my own life experience):

Myth #1 – Introverts don’t like to talk.
This is not true. Introverts just don’t talk unless they have something to say. They hate small talk. Get an introvert talking about something they are interested in, and they won’t shut up for days.

Myth #2 – Introverts are shy.
Shyness has nothing to do with being an Introvert. Introverts are not necessarily afraid of people. What they need is a reason to interact. They don’t interact for the sake of interacting. If you want to talk to an Introvert, just start talking. Don’t worry about being polite.

Myth #3 – Introverts are rude.
Introverts often don’t see a reason for beating around the bush with social pleasantries. They want everyone to just be real and honest. Unfortunately, this is not acceptable in most settings, so Introverts can feel a lot of pressure to fit in, which they find exhausting.

Myth #4 – Introverts don’t like people.
On the contrary, Introverts intensely value the few friends they have. They can count their close friends on one hand. If you are lucky enough for an introvert to consider you a friend, you probably have a loyal ally for life. Once you have earned their respect as being a person of substance, you’re in.

Myth #5 – Introverts don’t like to go out in public.
Nonsense. Introverts just don’t like to go out in public FOR AS LONG. They also like to avoid the complications that are involved in public activities. They take in data and experiences very quickly, and as a result, don’t need to be there for long to “get it.” They’re ready to go home, recharge, and process it all. In fact, recharging is absolutely crucial for Introverts.

Myth #6 – Introverts always want to be alone.
Introverts are perfectly comfortable with their own thoughts. They think a lot. They daydream. They like to have problems to work on, puzzles to solve. But they can also get incredibly lonely if they don’t have anyone to share their discoveries with. They crave an authentic and sincere connection with ONE PERSON at a time.

Myth #7 – Introverts are weird.
Introverts are often individualists. They don’t follow the crowd. They’d prefer to be valued for their novel ways of living. They think for themselves and because of that, they often challenge the norm. They don’t make most decisions based on what is popular or trendy.

Myth #8 – Introverts are aloof nerds.
Introverts are people who primarily look inward, paying close attention to their thoughts and emotions. It’s not that they are incapable of paying attention to what is going on around them, it’s just that their inner world is much more stimulating and rewarding to them.

Myth #9 – Introverts don’t know how to relax and have fun.
Introverts typically relax at home or in nature, not in busy public places. Introverts are not thrill seekers and adrenaline junkies. If there is too much talking and noise going on, they shut down. Their brains are too sensitive to the neurotransmitter called Dopamine. Introverts and Extroverts have different dominant neuro-pathways. Just look it up.

Myth #10 – Introverts can fix themselves and become Extroverts.
A world without Introverts would be a world with few scientists, musicians, artists, poets, filmmakers, doctors, mathematicians, writers, and philosophers. That being said, there are still plenty of techniques an Extrovert can learn in order to interact with Introverts. (Yes, I reversed these two terms on purpose to show you how biased our society is.) Introverts cannot “fix themselves” and deserve respect for their natural temperament and contributions to the human race. In fact, one study (Silverman, 1986) showed that the percentage of Introverts increases with IQ.

“You cannot escape us, and to change us would lead to your demise.” <-- I made that up. I'm a screenwriter.

It can be terribly destructive for an Introvert to deny themselves in order to get along in an Extrovert-Dominant World. Like other minorities, Introverts can end up hating themselves and others because of the differences. If you think you are an Introvert, I recommend you research the topic and seek out other Introverts to compare notes. The burden is not entirely on Introverts to try and become "normal." Extroverts need to recognize and respect us, and we also need to respect ourselves.

Let me know your thoughts.

christmas christmas time is here!

This has been an awesomely fun year of good ol' christmas traditions!
We've got the turkey dinner at home, albeit the microwave dying on us halfway, we've got the usual opening of one present ONLY on Christmas eve, and the Christmas mass (two of them this year), and another full Christmas dinner on the 25th Dec, and finally coming home to opening all the presents, and awaiting another holiday tomorrow! :D And now that its all over, I'll just have to look forward to next year for this wonderful day again!

Getting ready for bed and was about to load an episode of HIMYM when I get the error message "Servers are all full, try again later." WHAT IS EVERYBODY DOING HOME ON CHRISTMAS! you should be out (so that I can watch my episode in peace), i'm dead tired so its definitely an early night for me because of the late nights playing Spyro on Wii with baby. Its so addictive that game, we're already at the 50% mark and I really do hope to complete it before I leave.

My holiday is too short in Singapore, I can't bear to leave. I think I'm gonna be so homesick. Let everything stay the same when I get home!
A merry Christmas to one and all, and to all a good night!

and i thought all this was over last month

omggg getting nervous jitters because the results are out, or have been out since 12mn. Bad mistake to be checking them at night, did that for last semester and the results were so disappointing that i couldn't sleep the entire night. But for this sem, I've learnt to check it only in the morning, which brings me to this point now.

I wanted to wait until after xmas, but dad encouraged me to check it now and get it over with. So I guess i'm gonna do it right after i write this, because if my results are all too disappointing once more, xmas will cheer me up and allow me to realize that exam results are not all I live for, there are so many more beautiful things in life to look forward to, and it will not ruin my favorite day of the year!

Anyways, done all my Christmas shopping! can't believe I actually completed before christmas itself, WITHOUT stepping into town this year! woooo, a lot gentler on my wallets. Having a Christmas lunch later at baby's. Bought a bottle of wine to bring over, but I'm so shit at wines that I just ask the person at wine connections to introduce me to one. I ended up with a south african fruity one, this is mental note that if the wine's not good to not go back there again!
gahhhhh its down to this moment! congrats to all who did well!
& its 3 days counting to xmas! :D

Holidays are awesome!

T'was the happiest night of my life, after all these years I finally got to watch wicked!
Its awesome how those songs I've been listening to just comes to life, it was 3 hours of pure wicked goodness! How I dreaded when it came to the last song, but the cast was fantastic! I've heard rumors that the Australian cast was not as good, but I seriously beg to differ!
They were very good, although I do think some could be better, but it was overall a very good show!

Thanks babyboy for this musical! its been the most awesome yet!

Pre-wicked jitters! was soooo excited we headed in 15 minutes early!
Sadly, the seats we got were very bad, the bar was blocking our view the whole time, and it was 3 hours of leaning forward to overlook the bar. BUT as mesmerizing as the musical was, I pretty much forgot about the bar when the first song came on.

Managed a sneak photo of the finale! I would watch it over and over again.
Cannot wait to see how the Broadway version differs from this one, truly this is a musical that really puts a cherry on top of a beautiful 2011!

The past week, had 2 21st birthday parties as well, R and C had their birthdays back-to-back!

Happy 21st R! Hope you had a great one, food was awesome and turnout was great! Love your birthday cake!

C you're practically beaming! HAHA. I can tell you had an awesome time, love the muffins that I had for breakfast the next day! :D Special thanks to N.
awwww we're all 21! :')

Headed down to the science center for the dinosaur exhibit. I remember being terrified of this exhibit as a kid. So it must have been pretty awesomely terrifying. But to my slight disappointment, it wasn't. Perhaps over the years of growing up on Jurrassic Park movies and the recent Terra Nova craze, the dino exhibit was pretty blah.
I would pay if it had been probably $10, but not $20.

More the next time!
